Electro Acupuncture: What Is It?

from:

You may have heard of electro acupuncture. Most people know that acupuncture is an ancient form of medical treatment that has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. This is true and often, it is considered to be an alternative medicine or treatment option. Yet, more and more so, doctors are recommending the treatment as a complimentary tool to your other medications and treatments. But, what is electro acupuncture?
In this form of acupuncture, the needles that are traditionally inserted into the skin's layers will be linked with a device that works to send out continuous amounts of electric pulses. Usually the process is done with two pairs of needles which are linked together with this device. You may also hear electro acupuncture referred to as Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation or PENS.
Why should anyone use this type of acupuncture over other forms? The belief is that electro acupuncture will work to provide better treatment to the patient. Only some acupuncturists will use this treatment to facilitate their help to an individual. Usually, this type of acupuncture is paired with the most traditional types, and done at various times during the treatment process. The goal is to help restore the quality of life and healthy. Additionally, this method is recommended for those looking to treat intense pain through acupuncture.
In this method of treatment, individuals are treated in the same points as they would be in the most traditional forms of acupuncture. The amount of the pulse, which is always very small, is determined based on the type of condition that is being treated. The frequency of the pulse is also determined in this way. Usually, there is no need for the treatment to be done for more than thirty minutes, though less time can be effective as well.
Electro acupuncture is like any other form of acupuncture in that it triggers specific areas of the body for the treatment of pain and for improving the overall well being of an individual. Like all forms, the quality of care you receive will be dependant on the actual acupuncturist that is doing the work. In many cases, finding a qualified and experience individual to handle this type of acupuncture is necessary.
If you see an acupuncturist on a daily basis, talk to them about this type of treatment. You may find that it is an ideal way to treat your current situation. Electro acupuncture has been shown to be effective in many conditions by acupuncturists. Consider it as another, safe form of alternative medicine to treat your condition.
